The 41 year-old singer revealed "the powers that be" stopped Green from acquiring the song.
One of Pharrell's most successful singles nearly fell into the hands of someone else.
The 41 year-old music mogul's hit track 'Happy' was originally written for fellow performer Cee Lo Green.

The revelation came from Pharrell when appearing on 'The Howard Stern Show' this past Tuesday (April 29th).
During the interview, which lasted for over an hour, the 60 year-old radio personality asked the famed music producer if he considered giving 'Happy' to "a Robin Thicke or someone."

"[Cee Lo Green] wanted to do it.and he did do it," Pharrell replied. "He sounded amazing on it," Mr Williams added, even though "the powers that be" voted against Cee Lo acquiring the track.
"He burns my version!" Pharrell admitted. "But. . . how do I say this diplomatically? The powers that be, at the time, did not see it fit for him. Some folks on his team just felt that the priority should be on [Cee Lo's] album at the time [2012's Cee Lo's Magic Moment], so they elected not to do that song."
Cee Lo needs to speak to these so-called "powers that be," as they cost him a globally loved song that dominated the music charts.
"There was a much bigger agenda for [Cee Lo], he had an album to put out," Pharrell continued. "It's not his fault - he was totally down with it.. He was one of the most gracious people about it when ("Happy") came out."
