Trouble is currently brewing at a popular motor transport company in Asaba, Delta State following the sudden disappearance of a 41-year-old clearing agent, identified as Friday Oboh with his client’s N3.5million.
Reports said that the agent, who also doubles as car dealer, could not be found for about a week now.
It was reliably gathered that the clearing agent allegedly obtained the said amount (N3.5million) on the pretext of assisting an importer to clear his goods, including some cars at the Lagos seaport.
Since he travelled to lagos, his whereabout has been unknown. Even, his mobile phone has also been switched off.
Speaking to our correspondent on the telephone, the client, who did not want his name in print said, “this clearing agent operates a car dealer company along Anwai road in Asaba where we met and discussed how he could assist me in clearing my goods including vehicles from the seaport in Lagos. After the N3.5million payment I made, he promise that in three days time he will be back in Lagos but since then I have not heard from him and his telephone lines have been switched off.
Sources close to the police A Division in Asaba confirmed that the police detectives have commenced investigation into the whereabout of the clearing agent and have arrested two of his workers who have made useful statements while the investigation continues.
Speaking to our correspondent, a senior police officer in the division who did not want his name in print said, “we are on top of the investigation as all the addresses given seems to have been fake. The clearing agent is not known in any of the addresses but a team of police men have been dispatched to the seaport in Lagos for further investigation”.
